 | MARS - The Military Affiliate Radio System is a Department of Defense sponsored program, established as separate managed and operated programs by the Army, Navy, and Air
Force that consists of licensed amateur radio operators who are interested in military communications.
They provide auxiliary or emergency communications on a local, national, and international basis as an adjunct to normal communications.
|
 | DX The classic definition of DX is "distance", today it generally means contacting Amateur stations in far-away places.
On the HF (shortwave) bands, DX stations are those in foreign countries. On the VHF/UHF bands, DX stations can be within the same country or
continent.

 |
Satellite - Since December 1, 1961,
when Amateur Radio entered the space age, there have been dozens of amateur satellites launched and working them
is very easy.
|
 | APRS - APRS was developed by Bob Bruninga, WB4APR, for tracking and digital communications with mobile GPS equipped stations
via radio to exchange information between a large number of stations covering a large (local) area.
|
 | Packet - Packet is communications between people,
direct or indirect, using a computer and radio. You can work "keyboard to keyboard" or use electronic mailboxes or bulletin board systems to leave messages.
It is similar to email and instant messaging.
|
 | Contesting - Almost every
weekend of the year, the Amateur bands come alive with thousands of Hams
who try to talk to as many people as possible while saying as little as possible.
|
 | DX-peditions - Amateurs get together in small groups
and travel to a remote location (island, country, territory) to operate from
there.
|
 | JOTA - Jamboree
On The Air allows Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts an opportunity to talk to
other scouts around the world. We work in conjunction with the
Muskingum Valley Council at their camp near Conesville, Ohio.
